PLN 14 "Man critical after Colfax Stabbing"

I read "Man Critical after Colfax stabbing" by Monte Whaley, and what matters in this article is the health of both men, the victim and the assasin. The victim was beaten and stabbed once in the chest ob Colfax and Pearl Street. I think that this incident can be related to what Paul experiences in chapter 9 of "All Quiet on the Western Front", when a enemy soldier falls into the crater that Paul is hiding in, Paul abruptly stabs the soldier, to protect his own life. But while the soldier is laying there dying, Paul realizes the magnitude of what he has done, Paul realizes that this soldier is not an enemy, but a comrade. Paul realizes that this man has a mother just like him, and that this man is no different than him. This makes me wonder if the stabbing assasin is mentally healthy at this moment, because he could be going through the same after effects of hand-to-hand killing that Paul went through. While i am not comparing this street confrontation to the horrors of war, death in the heat of battle or death on the streets, death is death. This incident relates to me because i live in the same area that this crime happened, and i am concerned that things like this can strike so close to home. This also relates to the world because crimes like this can occer anywhere in the world, but i think that the effects and the trauma that can happen to the killer, or the victem if they do not die are very similar between all cases of this nature.

PLN 13 "Canadiens Retire Roy's No. 33"

I read "Canadiens Retire Roy's No. 33" by the Associated Press. This matters because Patrick Roy is the best goalie the NHL has ever seen with and can claim ownership to more than 10 records in the NHL record book, including Regular season wins (551), playoff wins (151), playoff shutouts (23), and Conn Smythe, or the playoff MVP, throphies, withe 3. Patrick Roy was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1984, played his first game late in 1985, and the next seaon was an all time starter as a rookie. Not only was Roy a starter at age 20, but he led the Montreal Canadiens to win the 1986 stanley cup as a rookie, winning the playoff MVP for the first time in his storied career. He would spend 9 years with the Montreal Canadiens, also winning the stanley cup, and MVP honors in 1993. Patrick Roy was traded to The Colorado Avalance on December 5th 1995. He would spend 9 more equally successful years in Colorado, winning two more stanley cups in 1996, and 2001, and also win one more MVP in 2001. This matters because this may be the best goalie the the NHL has ever seen, and it is unlikely the there could be another legend like Patrick Roy in the hockey world in a very long time. This relates to the world because hockey is a sport that is a lifestyle in Canada, just like everyone skiies in Colorado, everyone plays, watches and talks about hockey in Canada. That is why this is a big deal to the fans of the Canadiens, and hockey fans everywhere, because a legend has claimed his spot among the titans that rest in the rafters of the Bell Centre, the home of the Monteal Canadiens, and 24 stanley cups.

PLN 12 "Yes they can, No we cant"

I read " Yes they can, No we cant" by Lina Ben Mhenni, what matters in this article is the people in Tunisia want change because now they are seeing the great change for the American people are beginning with Obama, and they want that as well. "In its 50 years of independence Tunisia has had only 2 presidents" said Lina in his article. The president for the last 21 years has been Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, and while he declares Tunisia a democracy, he has made all the decisions during his term, and now Lina and other Tunisians like him want change like they are seeing in America. Hearing the cry of the people Ben Ali was re-elected to a fifth 5- year term sayin that he would give freedom and respect for human rights, as well as reviving democracy. But Lina and other citizens want someone else. This relates to me because it shows how lucky we are to live in a contry that has so many advantages over almost every country, we live in a country that poverty could be considered rich in other countries, and this article shows me that i should not take advantage of my freedoms, because they are privilages. This also relates to the world because there are many other countries like Tunisia that want independence, but they may not be able to achive this.

PLN 11 "Bond back on the big screen"

I read "Bond, gadgets, girls back on the big screen" by Mike Pearson i think what matters was that there is another James Bond movie out, who is pretty much the coolest guy ever besides Chuck Norris. Quantum of solace, the 22nd James Bond movie is now out, and this time Bond is out for revenge against the people that killed his girlfriend. What matters is that James Bond id a movie that everyone can enjoy, and movies are something that can bring every one together, no matter if you are young or old, boy or girl, everyone loves movies and there are not very many that are as classic as James Bond. This relates to the world because there are people in the world that are undercover agents like james bond, and it shows how cool it would be to have that job, as well as risky and adrenaline-pumping. I love James Bond and i hope to see this movie as soon as i can!

PLN 10 "Pedestrian killed in Denver Drive-by Shooting

I read "Pedestrian killed in Denver drive-by shooting" by Kieran Nicholson and what matters is that a man lost his life much earlier than he should have, because no one should die when they are only 21 years old. A young man that was 21 years old was walking with two of his friends at about 10:45 lawst night when he was shot by a car that was driving through the corner of South Decatur street andWest lliff Avenue. What matters is that another young man in the world has lost his life earlier than he should have. This murder does not just affect this man. It also affects his whole family, the two friends he was with, as well as all of his other friends. This is another murder of someone in the world that has not had a chance to fully experience life, and he will never get to experience any of the things that he had not already accomplished in life. I think that Murder is a horrible tragity, especially when it happens to someone who is as young as this man. I hope that everyone that is being affected by this shooting is able to fully heal, and get on with their life without this young man.

PLN 9 "Smith, Carlos pleased By Marshall's intent"

I read "Smith, Carlos Pleased bt Marshall's Intent" by Tim Dahlberg, and what matters to Brandon Marshall is showing how far racial equality has come because Barack Obama was elected president and Marshall feels that maybe racial differences have finally been put aside. The Broncos played thursday night against the Cleveland Browns and after Brandon Marshall pulled in the game-winning touchdown catch in the 4th quarter he pulled a black glove out of his pants, bowed his head and put his black-clad fist into the sky. This is an obvious reference to the 1968 olympic games in Mexico City, when racial tension was at an all time high two black sprinters Tommy Smith and John Carlos held up their clenched fists with black gloves. Many thought this was a symbol for black power, but all the two olympians wanted was raacial equality, something that was without a doubt achived on Tuesday. "I think he just wanted people to know what was going on" Tommy Smith said about Marshalls touchdown celebration. This relates to me because it was very interesting to see that some things that happened 40 years ago still apply to the present day. This also relates to the world because while blacks have the same rights and restrictions as whites, there are still racist Americans that do not want that for blacks. This election symbolizes the realization of a country that the color of somebodys skin does not change the person that they are.

PLN 8 Nuggets better with Billups

I read Nuggets better with Billups by Aaron J. Lopez, and i think what matters to chauncey Billups is living back in his hometown of Denver and having the chance to be able to play with a superstar like Carmelo Anthony. It is a huge loss for the Nuggets to lose possibly a top 5 player in the NBA like Allen Iverson, but Chauncey billups will have better chemistry with Carmelo Anthony, and that has the potential to make the Nuggets a much bettter team. I think That Allen Iverson will also join a very, very skilled Detroit team that now has the capability to easily win the NBA championship. This relates to the world because it shows how drasticly things can change in the span of a couple hours . Before Allen Iverson was traded he was probably preparing himself for the next opponent the Nuggets would face, but now he is in Detroit. This also relates to me bacuse i like the Nuggets and its interesting to see if the team will be better or worse with this change of player personelle.

PLN 7: Nuggets rally from 18 down to win in OT

I read "Nuggets rally from 18 down, win OT" by Chris Tomasson I think what matters to the Nuggets is winning their first game of the season, because that is a good tone to set for the season, and hopefully another win towards their cause of making the playoffs, and winning a world championship. The Nuggets played the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and after struggling in the first in the first half, the Nuggets came back in the second half to dominate play, and come back from an 18 point deficet to force overtime. What matters to the Nuggets is getting their first win of the season, the Nuggets also showed how well they can play in one half, and if they play that way for the rest of the season they can be a dominating team in the West. This relates to me because it is great to see a team from my home city doing well, and it makes people relize that the Nuggets can be a legitimate team in the Western conference. This also applies to the world because when a city's sports teams are doing well the mood around the city changes so much, last year the whole Denver area was filled with excitement when the Rockies reached the World Series for the first time in the franchise's history, sports can make the difference between a good day and a bad day, it gives us all a common cause to root for, and it is something that most people can talk to each other about and something that makes life fun
