PLN of choice

i read "Polio survivors, historians, scientists recount battle against virus." by Mark Humbert. it was about the polio epedemic that raged the nation from the 1920's until the dangers climaxed in the early 1950's. in the year 1950 alone almost 33,000 americans were effected by polio, half of them under the age of 10. This relates to the world because it is something that has changed the course of the world. Some of the world greatest thinkers, like Franklin D. Roosevelt and Joeseph Goebbles were effected by polio, and they are people that certainly shaped the way the world is today. This relates to me because if the polio vaccine had never been discovered then me and all other children would have to live in fear and be very careful about polio. This relates to our class because our objective in this class is to change the world, and that is precisely what Dr. Jonas Stalk did in 1954 when he developed the vaccine for polio, this invention rid millions of children who would later be born from the fear of getting polio. I think what Dr. Stalk did can be a model for our class because it shows how much one person can afect the world so drasticly.

change the world pln

Friday in class we watched a video that showed a girl saying cynical things like that she would never change the world, and that she didnt care about anything. then it rolled the lines on the screen backwards, and if you said everything backwards than it showed the girl saying that she cared and thyat she would change the world. I think this relates to me and this class because as a class and as a individual we must change the world to make it a better place. This video showed that change can work positively or it can make the world a worse place. Our job as people is to make sure to help the people that have been victimized by people who seek negative change. This connects to the world because we are not the only people that can change the world, we can also change the world by educating the world about issues so not only us are trying to help. This is why this video makes me think so much about change, we have to make the whole world into one cause to help people in distress.

"I remember when"

This friday in class we watched a movie called "i remember when" it was about kids who have been affected by the way that technology has evolved around them. While it is a scary thought to think about how much things can change in just a couple of years it was also interesting and enlightening to realize that things are constantly changing. I remember when i was young there was no DVDs, and no iPods, but it wasn't a big deal to us then because we didnt know that these things like iPods would ever exist. What matters in this video is that things can always change, it could be a small change like getting a newer iPod, or it could be a huge change, like a revolutionary cure to cancer or something like that. This relates to the me because i have to change the world and this video makes me think that there are infinate ways to change the world, ways i can do it, and people to help. This relates to the world because it shows that even in impoverish places in the world there is always hope and there will always be someone somewhere that is trying to help you.

My 3 items

Item number One-My first item that tells a lot about who i am is my cat Mister Kitty. Its a girl and its real name is Amber but i call it Mister Kitty. the vet said that she is Psychotic and she eats her own fur so her fur on one side of her body is all patchy. Haha this shows that i love animals and that i can take care of other living things (the psychotic thing isnt my fault). This cat also means alot to me because its something that lives with me and i've gotten so used to it that if it was not around i would miss it so much. this kitty cat shows my love for other living things and symbolizes my love for animals.

Item number Two- My Red Hot Chili Peppers and Blink-182 posters are another thing that is very important because while it shows who my favorite bands are and how ridiculously awesome those two bands are, it also shows my passion for music and how big of a part music is in my life. I listen to my ipod and listen to music on the computer all the tme, and my favorite bands are by far Blink-182 is my favorite band, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are my second favorite. Music helps me when im not happy, it helps me get pumped up, and it also makes me happy!

Cosa numero Tres- My third item would be a hockey stick, because i love hockey and it is by far my favorite sport to watch and it is so much more exciting than baseball or anything else. My favorite team is the Colorado Avalanche (and i HATE the Minnisota Wild) my favorite player is Ian Lapierriere because he is scrappy and hardworking and he is the type of player that all the hometown fans love and everybody else hates and i love that. I also HATE the Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings and the Vancouver Canucks.this matters because hckey is something that i love to watch and play and its something that can make me very happy or very sad (if a certain team wins 2-0)

PLN 16 "Suspect sought in Greeley shooting"

I read "Suspect sought in Greeley shooting" By the Denver Post, and it is about the chase for a large bald man who allegedly shot another man in the leg and torso. I think what matters in this article is the affects shooting somebody has on the shooter, and weather the affects are similar to shooting someone in a war time stuation. Reading this article made me think, Are the affects of shooting someone in war the same as just shooting someone on the street? While i think that most solidiers killing other soldiers in justified because its kill or be killed, where as on the street most killings occur out of hate for someone else. I think that It probably aaffects soldiers to kill people more, because soldiers realize that the enemy that they are fighting are just like them, forced to fight by other people, and when they take a life it also sticks in their head forever. I think on the street that killers are blind with rage and do not realize the magnitude of their actions until its too late. This relates to the world because wars and killings happen all the time, and while the enemy may be different in different countries, the toll it takes in a soldiers heart must be similar. Tjis also relates to me because reading the book "All Quiet on the Western Front" has really opened my mind abvout the affects that war has on people.

PLN 15 "Man found dead of gunshot had been shoveling snow"

I read "man found dead of gunshot had been shovelling snow" by the associated press it is about a 46 year old man that was shot dead on his driveway while he was shoveling snow, i think what matters is why someone would commit a crime like this? The man that died was going outside to clear his driveway of snow and insted he ended up dead. Any crime like this makes me wonder why crimes need to happen, and why people need to kill other people. This matters because there are so many people around the world that lose their lifes for no reason all over the globe, and it makes me wonder how great a world with no crime would be, but i know that this could probably never happen. This connects to the world because there are senseless murders like this being committed like this everyday in every part of the world, and i think that it is tragic that this kind of crime cannot be eliminated. This also connects to me becauser it makes me think of a song by Underoath called "Its Dangerous Business Walking out your front door" it is a song about car crashes and other things that you do everyday that could kill you and this is a man that walked outside expecting to come back inside in 15 minutes, and never did.

PLN 14 "Man critical after Colfax Stabbing"

I read "Man Critical after Colfax stabbing" by Monte Whaley, and what matters in this article is the health of both men, the victim and the assasin. The victim was beaten and stabbed once in the chest ob Colfax and Pearl Street. I think that this incident can be related to what Paul experiences in chapter 9 of "All Quiet on the Western Front", when a enemy soldier falls into the crater that Paul is hiding in, Paul abruptly stabs the soldier, to protect his own life. But while the soldier is laying there dying, Paul realizes the magnitude of what he has done, Paul realizes that this soldier is not an enemy, but a comrade. Paul realizes that this man has a mother just like him, and that this man is no different than him. This makes me wonder if the stabbing assasin is mentally healthy at this moment, because he could be going through the same after effects of hand-to-hand killing that Paul went through. While i am not comparing this street confrontation to the horrors of war, death in the heat of battle or death on the streets, death is death. This incident relates to me because i live in the same area that this crime happened, and i am concerned that things like this can strike so close to home. This also relates to the world because crimes like this can occer anywhere in the world, but i think that the effects and the trauma that can happen to the killer, or the victem if they do not die are very similar between all cases of this nature.
